Wondering Wednesday
Today we continued to build stamina in reading groups. The group that goes to Room 2 has reached 20 minutes. Yay! In celebration they are having a Flashlight reading party. They need to bring a flashlight tomorrow. Please make sure you clearly label it with your child's name and room number to ensure that it comes back to you.
In math we were working on problem solving using patterns. I have included the questions if you would like to discuss them at home. As a group, the grade ones were read the problem and we worked together on it as a class. The grade twos were given the opportunity to work on theirs independently. It was an exercise in positive growth mind set and to keep trying even when it is hard. There were many who just wanted the answer and did not want to work it out. We will continue to work on a variety of problem solving each week to help develop their toolboxes as well as grow as learners to embrace learning challenges and to persevere until an answer is found.
1) Molly served Nancy a chocolate sundae. Next she served Robin a rootbeer float. Then she served Tommy a chocolate sundae. What will she serve next if the pattern continues?
2) Andrew the Aardvark eats only in even numbers. This week he ate 24 ants on Monday, 30 ants on Tuesday, and 36 ants on Wednesday. Following this pattern, on which day will he eat 54 ants?
Social studies we talked about the past and what we were able to do when we were babies. Tomorrow we will compare this with what we can do now and note the changes that have occurred.
