Orange Shirt Day

Today we learned about Orange Shirt Day and the message  "Every Child Matters". We learned about what residential school were like for children through Phyllis's story as a child in the storybook  "Orange Shirt Day Story". Here is some of the facts students learned and their feelings on  Phyllis's experience. Orange shirt is about the First Nation children who went to Residential School. The children never got to see their parents for 300 sleeps. The children only were home for 56 days. Orange Shirt Day’s message is Every Child Matters. The nuns did not care about the children. The nuns were not nice to the children. The children did not get food they liked. The nuns took away their clothes and cut their hair. The nuns told the children what to do. The children could only speak English and French. Not their home language. I would want to leave the school. I would feel sad to be at a Residential Schoo

Terry Fox Run Thursday

Thanks for all the donations that have come in.  I was stylishly dressed. We had a fun Terry Fox run regardless of the weather.  Ask your child how many laps they completed. As a class we did 136 laps between us.  Yay Room 3!! Today we worked in math on creating various patterns with a variety of materials.  The students have been learning that patterns have to repeat at least 3 times, there is a core, and you can label it with letters.  I encourage you as a family to look in nature and around the house to find real life examples of patterns.

Wacky Wednesday!

We had a busy day today.  Here are some of the things we did.  Please ask your child about these things to find out more. Morning Message. Music Reading Groups - building stamina and building reading strategies (Eagle Eye and Lips the Fish) Math - sorting by one or two attributes.  We are trying to move away from sorting by colour. If possible sort things at home and emphasize different ways to sort using different attributes like size, shape, type.  Montessori Time Gym with Ms Ma and Ms Wacker Social studies - we talked about the Past, Present and Future.  We will be looking at their past and changes that they have experienced themselves and in their families.  If possible talk to your child about these words as it is a difficult concept and review is helpful.  Remember it is PICTURE DAY tomorrow as well as our Food Truck Welcome Back Event is tomorrow from 5:30-7:00. We hope to see you there!!!

Peace Education

Today we worked expressing our feelings and resolving conflict. We use our peace table and a peace flower to help us resolve conflict with others.  Here are the steps we practiced following: 1.   Say you have a problem 2.   Go to the Peace Table or quiet spot 3.   Face each other and take 3 big breaths together 4.   Take the peace flower and express your feelings and why. I feel _______ because_____________. 5.   Pass the peace flower. Other person says what they heard and expresses their side. I heard you feel ________ because _______.   I felt ______ because ________. 6.   Move forward for to find a resolution. Share ideas. 7.   Pass the Peace Flower back and forth until you both agree on how to solve the conflict. 8.   Shake hands! You may even find these steps can help resolve conflict at home! Here are some great ways students came up with to solve a variety of problems we may have in class: Give a hug S
