Thinking Thursday

Today we learned about Reading to Self and where readers read a book.  We started building stamina and the class was able to get to three minutes today!!

We played a math game where we raced to a number ranging from 20-120.  It was fun.  We also talked about important numbers in our lives (age, birthdate, number of siblings, phone number, house number, etc).  The students had fun guessing each others numbers.  This would be a fun activity to do at home together.

If you haven't done so, please return the name homework by next week so we can begin sharing. 

Please check your child's backpack for the Club sheet as it needs to be returned tomorrow.

TD Grade One Book Giveaway

On Tuesday students brought home the book, My Heart Fills With Happiness. This book is a gift form TD for your child to keep. Grade ones usually receive the books however, because we are multi-aged, both grade ones and twos received the book.

Orange Shirt Day

Today we learned about Orange Shirt Day and the message  "Every Child Matters". We learned about what residential school were like for children through Phyllis's story as a child in the storybook  "Orange Shirt Day Story". Here is some of the facts students learned and their feelings on  Phyllis's experience. Orange shirt is about the First Nation children who went to Residential School. The children never got to see their parents for 300 sleeps. The children only were home for 56 days. Orange Shirt Day’s message is Every Child Matters. The nuns did not care about the children. The nuns were not nice to the children. The children did not get food they liked. The nuns took away their clothes and cut their hair. The nuns told the children what to do.
