Game Time

Students had such an amazing day! Even though it was a very exciting day, they did great listening  and particularly cleaning up our classroom! Way to go Room 3! We earned ourself another class reward!!! Students voted and they decided they wanted to do a game time together on Tuesday afternoon. Students are allowed to bring in a relatively simple game with not too many pieces. Some ideas are jenga, connect four, etc. Students will be responsible for taking care of their game and  not losing pieces.

Halloween Parade

Ask your child about our school wide Halloween Parade and dance party in the gym today. Happy Halloween and stay safe trick or treating tonight! Your child will also be coming home with a  MAPPS notebook and pen they can keep.

Witch's Brew Recipe

Image
What fun and exciting day we had! We followed a recipe  to make "witch's brew" with a partner. Some students wrote the recipe out so they could do it at  home too. Next week, we will be writing our very own recipe! Please have your child follow a simple recipe to make something that they can write about. Here are some ideas they came up with: Make a sandwich Make crackers and cheese Make popcorn Make cereal It needs only a few ingredients and probably no more than 6 steps. This is also a great way to foster independence in your child! You can even encourage them to take responsibility of  starting to pack their own morning snack. Here are some photos of students creating our witch's brew:

Our Unique Pumpkin Pattern Art

Image
On Monday and Tuesday, we read the story "Spookley the Square Pumpkin", about a uniquely shaped pumpkin who realized that, although he was different, it was what made him special.  We created our own pumpkins of a variety of shapes  and used our math learning of patterns  to make them even more interesting. We, also, did some writing about what makes us unique and special! Ask your child to point out their art piece and tell you about their writing.

Today's Adventures and reminder re Halloween/Flashlights

Image
Spooky Flashlight Reading and Halloween Parade Tomorrow! Reminder:  Children can wear costumes tomorrow for Halloween.  Please no scary makeup, face masks or weapons.    Kids should also bring a flashlight for their literacy group. Today we had a fire drill and the students did well.   Math: The grade ones continued to practice their repeating patterns and identifying errors that others have made in their patterns.  The grade twos were exploring increasing and decreasing patterns by using a T chart.   Social Studies We continued our conversation about changes in our families.  Today we focused on Moving.  We read a book called A Kiss Goodbye by the same author as the Kissing Hand .  We talked about feelings, positive and negative changes that occur when we move.    *****Reminder that there is NO school on Friday November 1 as it is a PD day!

Communication Folders

A folder for communication will be coming home in your child's backpack for communication between school and home. Please keep in your child's backpack for us to send home notices and work.  We do not have the time in our day to check them every day so if you are sending something in for the teacher, please tell your child so they can bring it to the teacher first thing in the morning.

Sense of Touch

Today, we looked at our sense of touch. We are coming home with descriptive words for the texture of objects. You do not need to return this sheet, it is yours to keep.
