Room 3 2019/20

Today was a very exciting day for the students in Room 3.  We had buddies with Room 17 for the first time today. Also we started clubs today.  There was a sheet sent home with the three opportunities your child will be able to participate in this year. Please ask your child to share their new adventures with you. Have a great weekend!

A math game you can try at home. Race to Something Materials  -dice (one or two) -filled in 120 chart or blank one for a challenge) -2 game pieces Directions: Players choose their goal number (Based on ability).  20, 50, 100, or 120 Rock Paper Scissors to determine who starts Students take turns rolling the dice and moving forward that many spaces on their hundred board. The first student to reach 120 wins!  Variations You can also reverse this and play race to 0, starting with your game pieces on 120 and counting down. You can also use a blank chart and fill in the numbers as you roll them by adding the dice total to the last number recorded. Have fun!!

LA: We worked on building our stamina in reading.  Math: We have started looking at sorting objects by different attributes.  Please ask your child about what attributes they can use to sort. Socials: We are discussing how we are unique and that we have different likes and dislikes.  Art: We learned how to draw a portrait of ourselves. Your child is bringing home a brown paper bag tonight. We want to learn more about your child and what makes them unique, their interests, special people in their life, etc. Please have your child fill the bag with 3 things that  tell us more about them! Perhaps hockey is a favourite sport so he/she puts in a puck. Or a photos of your family. Or a paintbrush to show a love of art. Or a seashell to show a love of the ocean or favourite holiday. We would like for most things to fix in the bag. Large, breakable or expensive items are better off as a photo instead. Please no electronics. We look forward to learning more about each of our students and making connections to one another. Please bring in items for Monday. We will try to present all bags Monday, Tuesday and Friday of next week. Thank you families for your support and help with this project!

Today we read "Have You Filled a Bucket Today" about how we can be kind and fill each other's invisible bucket and make others feel good. We came up with a list of way to fill each others buckets and gave examples about how others in our class had already filled our buckets. We are going to try each day to fill at least one person's bucket. When someone fills our bucket, we are going to add a pom pom to our class bucket and see how many times we can fill a bucket in a week. Have your child explain our invisible buckets to you and how your family can be filling each others buckets up at home too!

Welcome Lily and Theo! They are excited to come for a visit at your house and go on an adventures! Each week one student will get to choose a bear to take home over the weekend. The student will get to draw a picture and do a little writing about what they did with Lily or Theo. On Monday, the student will bring back the bear with the journal and share the adventures they had. (More information is in the bag coming home with the bear). Have fun with Theo and Lily!

Here was our first weekly poem. Read the poem with your child. Depending on your child's level, have your child find letters or words that he/she knows. For higher level, have them read the entire poem to you.
